| In “The World Turned Upside Down”, the Hurdy-Gurdy Man weaves together theater, history, story-telling and a concert of 18th Century music as he recounts the adventures of his Great-great-great-etc. Uncle Benjamin, minstrel and spy in the service of General George Washington.
Welcomed into the British camp to entertain the English and Hessian troops, Uncle Benjamin must use not only his wits, but his many rare and curious musical instruments, to steal an all important military map from Gen. Cornwallis and deliver it to the Americans.
"The World Turned Upside Down" is appropriate for a wide range of audiences and settings and is well suited for 4th and 5th grades as well as family events at libraries and historic sites. With minimal technical requirements, "The World Turned Upside Down" is as easily presented outdoors or on an indoor stage. While performances are usually an hour in length, these tales and music readily lend themselves to shorter and even wandering presentations.
In addition to the hurdy-gurdy, Donald also performs on the Crummhorn, Gemshorn Flute and Bowed Psalter.
